ABOUT US:
Addressing mental healthcare challenges in the USA is a difficult feat as it is, and it is particularly difficult for African Americans who continue to be systematically disenfranchised. In low- and middle-income neighborhoods, people with mental illness face threats to their human rights. From hurdles that limit their clinical and functional recovery to the stigma that hampers social inclusion and participatory citizenship, they endure obstacles that impede their overall wellbeing and productivity.

KENTUCKIANA COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES.
Is a not-for-profit organization built on the premise that community-based initiatives focusing on psychotherapy and capacity building can bridge the gap between mental illness and effective, wholesome treatment. We cater to communities within Kentucky and Indiana, where we intricately understand the struggles that victims and clients go through. Here, we are alive to the factors such as poor access to appropriate health care, limited resources that result in large gaps in treatment, and heightened vulnerability and discrimination, coupled with poverty and lower levels of education, compound the mental health crises. As such, we respond through multifaceted approaches that include research, advocacy, education, therapy, and a range of clinical mental health services that are proactive, effective, and sustainable in the long run.

To realize our mission, we have embarked on a combination of approaches to prevent and manage mental illness challenges. The first approach involves providing education and awareness.
KCBS offers various learning sessions on anger & anxiety management, drug & substance abuse, and social skills, among others. The intention is to deliver practical information, guidance, and skills to recognize and manage your mental health and wellbeing.

The second approach is the treatment of mental illness. We have an experienced team of medical practitioners and professional counselors with vast expertise and knowledge in administering medications and therapy. We steer away from the one-size-fits-all approach and instead employ a personalized strategy that deals with the individual while recognizing their unique setups and circumstances.
We additionally follow up with every client post-treatment to ensure that the desired outcomes have been attained and the client will be successful in their communities.

Ultimately, KCBS endears to create & promote mentally healthy communities. We aim to adopt a shift from the medical model of wellbeing and focus on the person, not on the mental illnesses. All individuals, organizations, and societies have mental health concerns, and we must address them to lead more complete and fulfilling lives.
KENTUCKIANA COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES.
Mission
To provide mental healthcare, awareness, and education at the grassroots level within communities in Kentucky and Indiana.
Vision
Our vision is to create a world that promotes a collective approach to mental wellness — in which anyone, anywhere, can access the resources they require.
Values
Compassionate and emphatic – we are motivated by the tenets that everyone, no matter their age, gender, religion, or color, should have access to quality mental health care. We understand the severe shortage of treatment resources and aim to be a source of hope in such situations. We trust we can create long-lasting change through stigma alleviation and increasing mental health literacy to create a more tolerant world.

Empowerment – We believe in being a force of change. We are passionate about working with individuals, self-help groups, and community-based organizations, including youth, women, and church programs. By equipping them with the right information and resources, we create a support system to care for those who require mental health assistance. This effect expands to surrounding regions, as well as trickling down to incoming generations.
Result-driven – We only adopt initiatives and techniques with an assured success rate. Involving as many players as possible, both at the state and grassroots levels, guarantees that policies are intentionally created, and the right help is delivered where needed most - at the individual and family levels.
Partnerships & Benevolence – We collaborate with Designated Collaborating Organizations (DCOs), which have extensive access at the grassroots level, in order to reach as many people as possible. We also work with people, groups, corporations, and governments to join forces with us in the fight against mental illness through our multifaceted strategies. We depend on the kindness and charity deeds of those who share our mission as a non-profit organization.
